Let's Unpack what Self-Care is, why it's important and a few quick tips on how to practice it!

Summer is almost here, June 21st! #ComingSoon As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, there are more opportunities than ever to switch up your routine and enjoy the season.

Let's set the record straight. Self-care isn't selfish, it's necessary! When you take good care of yourself, you can be healthy, be well, productive on your job or in your business, and even take care of others from time to time.

Stress can be handled and/or reduced by engaging in Self-CARE. You are taking steps to maintain your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Here are some tips to help you take care of yourself this summer. Hopefully, these suggestions will motivate you to get outside and enjoy the sunshine!

Tip #1 - Chile, Get Off the Couch and Go Outside!

According to a 2019 study published in Lancet Planet Health, spending time in green space is associated with a lower mortality rate. Grab a blanket or lawn chair and something to read and set up camp on a shady patch of grass.

Tip #2 - Look for things happening in your city!

You can usually find events happening in your area by looking online or in the newspaper. Check out outdoor movies, concerts & yoga sessions, dance classes, yard sales, festivals and farmer's markets. It can help you feel excited and give you something to look forward to when you make fun plans.

Tip #3 - Make a Summer "Feel Good" Playlist

Bring on the summer jams, your way! Music can improve your mood and motivate you to get moving effortlessly. Add a few affirmation tracks too! Mix it up! In the a.m., when I'm headed to work or the gym, I have an affirmation playlist with artist such as Toni Jones, Mumu Fresh, ewww, Robert Glasper is nice, too! At the gym and on road trips, I vibe out to Tobe Nwigwe, Kendrick Lamar, Sa-Roc, Wale, David Banner, just to list a few. Create your playlist, specifically for you! Bonus points for listening while exercising or cleaning. # PRESSPLAY

Tip #4 - Travel!

Pack your self-care travel essentials, like our STAY READY TRAVEL CASE and roll out! Consider a StayCation or out of the city/country VaCation! Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, self-care is an essential part of the perfect travel experience.

Tip #5 - Do a NEEDS assessment

Girl, Check on YOU! How did your last week go? Is there anything you could do to make next week better? Maybe you need more sleep, more social time or to prepare some healthy meals before your next busy week. Take a moment to reflect and think about how you can make time for whatever you need to best care for yourself.

Next Steps!

Make your own summer self-care checklist by using these ideas. Even small changes to your routine can improve your self-care practice and overall mood. Focus on new ways you can be active, get outside and get involved with your community. Make this summer a season of self-care.
